Kanash Local History Museum
About museum
On February 20, 1969 the Kanash Local History Museum was opened; today it is an important center of the city's cultural life. The museum houses over 9,000 exhibits, including items of numismatics, ethnography, painting, sculpture, graphics, documents, books and photographs. The collection also includes archaeological exhibits, such as stone axes from the Balanovo burial ground. The museum's most valuable exhibit is a 19th-century oak buffet. The museum has departments of natural history, ethnography and everyday life, an exhibition hall, an art gallery and a House of Crafts. The exhibition hall presents shows created from the museum's own collections as well as those of other museums. The museum attracts many visitors eager to study and learn about the national culture.
