About museum
In accordance with the resolution of the Council of Ministers of the RSFSR dated October 19, 1979, a decision was made to open an Exhibition Hall in the city of Maykop under the Department of Culture of the Regional Executive Committee. The institution was opened on November 1, 1980. It was later renamed the Art Gallery of the Republic of Adygea. It is currently headed by Honored Artist of the Republic of Adygea, Honored Artist of the Karachay-Cherkess Republic, and Honored Worker of Culture of the Russian Federation Abdulah Makhmudovich Bersirov. Over the years the gallery has held more than 500 exhibitions of various themes, including solo and anniversary exhibitions. Works from the collections of the Russian Academy of Arts and museums of Krasnodar, Pyatigorsk and Yakutia have been exhibited. Catalogs and brochures are published for exhibitions. The Art Gallery is an important source for the study of Adygea's art, since contacts have been established with all museums, galleries, private collectors and Artists' Unions of the region.
