About museum
On December 26, 2004, the first exhibition in the city was held, which included the majority of works by Honored Artist of Russia L. S. Ryzhov. As a gift to the city, he donated 79 of his works representing various genres. In connection with this, the city administration, led by Mayor A. D. Mikhalev, decided to establish an art gallery in a new apartment building. The first director was Honored Worker of Culture of the Russian Federation L. M. Dianova. Today the gallery holds about 30 exhibitions a year featuring works by both established and emerging artists. Photo exhibitions on various themes are also held regularly. In addition, in 2011 a branch of the City Art Gallery was created at the Chita Institute of Baikal University, which organizes traveling exhibitions. Every year at the end of the year a folk art exhibition takes place, which attracts great interest from the townspeople.
