Karachev Local History Museum
About museum
In 1979 the Karachev Museum was opened in the district House of Culture; in 1988 it moved to its own building in the city center. The museum houses more than 8,000 items representing the region's history: archaeological exhibits; household and work items of peasants from the late 19th–early 20th centuries; photographs of churches and monasteries; books and icons; wartime relics; and much more. Here you can learn about one of Russia's ancient towns, mentioned in the chronicle of 1146, and hear the story of an 18th-century coin hoard and the remains of a 12th-century church.
