Historical and Memorial Museum "Command Post of the Central Front"

In 1963 Marshal of the USSR K. K. Rokossovsky visited the settlement of Svoboda, where the Command Post and headquarters of the Central Front had previously been located. To commemorate this event a historical and memorial complex was built, which was solemnly opened on August 5, 1973. The museum presents various materials and objects dedicated to the Battle of Kursk and the activities of the Command Post. The museum's collections hold more than 8,000 items, including the personal belongings of M. S. Malinin, A. I. Proshlyakov, P. I. Batov, S. I. Rudenko, V. I. Kozakov and K. F. Telegin. On the memorial grounds there is a reconstruction of K. K. Rokossovsky's dugout, his bust, a stele, samples of military equipment, and a sculpture of a liberating soldier. The museum's honorary guests have included V. V. Putin, D. A. Medvedev, S. K. Shoigu and Patriarch Kirill of All Rus'.
