About museum
In the village of Cherny Yar, Chernyarsky District, there is a Local History Museum, which is a branch of the Astrakhan museum-reserve. The museum building was constructed in 1824 and until the 1917 revolution it housed administrative offices. In 1967 the Museum of the Defense of Cherny Yar (1919) was established here. In 1990, by decision of the Astrakhan Regional Council of People's Deputies, the museum was renamed the Historical and Local History Museum of the village of Cherny Yar. In 1991 the museum was given the second floor of the former House of Culture, which allowed the expansion of the museum exhibitions. In 2014 the museum was renovated, and in 2015 updated exhibitions were opened. Today the museum has more than 2,000 exhibits on the nature, history and culture of the Chernyarsky District; various thematic exhibitions, tours and events are held for visitors of all ages and categories. The annual number of museum visitors can reach up to 18,000 people.
