Aleutsky Local History Museum
About museum
The Aleut museum was established in the mid-1960s at the initiative of local residents. The first premises were provided by the Aleut district executive committee in 1965, but they were rather dilapidated. In the 1970s the museum was moved to the building of the former administration of the Aleut district, built in the 19th century to a design by N. A. Grebnitsky. The official opening took place on November 7, 1976. The building itself has considerable historical value. The exhibition is presented in Russian and English and includes four halls with interesting compositions. The museum exhibits materials on the Second Kamchatka Expedition; the visit to and settlement of the islands in the 17th–19th centuries; the Russian‑American Company and the American fur lease. The museum attracts visitors from Russia and other countries.
