State Museum of Artistic Culture of the Novgorod Land (main building)
About museum
The State Museum of Artistic Culture of the Novgorod Land is located in Veliky Novgorod on the site of the former Desyatinnaya Monastery, founded in 1327. Sergei Rachmaninov and Mstislav Dobuzhinsky worked here, as did Praskovya Lupolova and the elder nun Maria. In 1918 the monastery was abolished and belonged to various organizations until artist studios appeared in 1994. The museum's director was Gavrilova Galina Viktorovna, a Merited Cultural Worker of the Russian Federation. Today the museum serves as a venue to discover the work of the best Novgorod artists, offering guided tours and master classes, as well as exhibition halls and art clusters. Visitors can learn a lot of interesting information about the monastery's history and buy souvenirs.
