About museum
In this building, which was built for Empress Elizabeth Petrovna by the architect Bartolomeo Rastrelli, the name "Catherine" (Catherine Palace) was given later in honor of Catherine II, who came to the throne after the palace coup. The palace interiors were formed several decades earlier; the final stage was associated with Alexander I. In the palace you can see a first-rate collection of Russian furniture and a collection of decorative bronzes, including works by French masters. Of particular note is the Guryev service, consisting of almost 5,000 pieces produced at the Imperial Porcelain Factory.
