Peter I's House on the Tsar's Court in Kolomenskoye
About museum
Kolomenskoye is home to the only museum-monument dedicated to Peter I — the reforming tsar. The house was built in 1702 on St. Mark's Island and belonged to the tsar, who spent two months there overseeing the construction of the Novodvinskaya Fortress. In 1934 the house was saved from demolition and moved to Kolomenskoye. It consists of three living rooms with a seni (an enclosed passage) between them, and it has a large number of windows, which led to it being called the 'tsar's chambers' at the time. The house presents the exhibition 'Builder, Sailor, Hero', devoted to the early phase of Peter's reforms. Furniture, kitchen utensils, icons and other period items have been recreated. For visitors there is an audio guide, a touchscreen kiosk and an information stand with a relief image of the building and texts in Russian and English and in Braille.
