About museum

In 1961 the Government of the RSFSR gifted the parents of the first cosmonaut the house in which Alexey Ivanovich Gagarin — the father of Yuri Alekseyevich Gagarin — spent his last years. The interior has been recreated to reflect the period of Yuri Gagarin's visits here from 1961 to 1967: photographs on the walls, and numerous gifts that were presented both to A. T. Gagarin and to his parents. This is the last place Yuri Alekseyevich visited in Gzhatsk before his death. Next to the house-museum is a glass pavilion where the Volga car that belonged to the first cosmonaut is kept.
