GES-2 House of Culture
About museum
GES-2 House of Culture is an urban space and the main venue of the V–A–C Foundation in Russia. It brings together exhibition halls, a library, a cinema and a concert hall, workshops, studios and artists' residencies, shops, a restaurant and cafés, a children's playground and auditoriums for public and educational events.
\r\n
\r\nBy creating a new model of a cultural institution, the V–A–C Foundation rethought the idea of the Russian people's houses of the late 19th century, whose purpose was to introduce people to active creative participation. GES-2 is a place where art becomes part of an accessible everyday experience.
\r\n
\r\nAt the GES-2 House of Culture any hierarchy has been abolished; artistic disciplines coexist, touch, collide and flow into one another. Here the dialogue between theatre, music, visual art, opera, dance and cinema can open up territories that do not yet even have names.
\r\n
\r\nWorking on programmes together with professionals, GES-2 strives to become a platform of equality, where there is no opposition between expert and non-expert opinion, or between artistic and non-artistic activity. GES-2 is a space for collaborative experiments and interaction, where people can explore contemporary culture and actively participate in shaping and developing it.
