The Hermitage in the General Staff Building is a unique combination of historic interiors and a modern exhibition complex. It houses the world’s finest collection of Impressionist and Post-Impressionist works, as well as pieces by Matisse, Picasso, Maurice Denis and other masters. It also features exhibitions such as “The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Russia,” “Art of the Modern Era,” “The Ministry of Finance of the Russian Empire,” the Guards Museum, the Carl Fabergé memorial halls, and 21st-century art. Visitors can also see the state rooms of diplomatic gifts and a large collection of 19th-century German paintings. Temporary exhibitions presenting contemporary art are held regularly in the building. There is much to see and learn here!
