Dagogninsky Historical and Local Lore Museum
About museum
Dagogninsky Historical and Local Lore Museum is a branch of the National Museum of Dagestan named after A. Taho-Godi and was opened in 2008. It houses more than 1,000 exhibits. Visitors can see a paleontological collection: mammoth tusks and teeth, a fragment of the vertebra of a Sarmatian whale, fossilized ammonites and sea urchins. The archaeology department holds exhibits from the 6th–7th centuries found in the Velikent burial ground. The ethnography section presents household items, weapons, ritual amulets and talismans, handicraft products, and decorative-applied art of the peoples of Southern Dagestan. The central part of the exhibition tells about the creation of the first mechanized glass factory in the Soviet Union, "Dagestanskiye Ogni" (Dagestan Lights), and the development of the glass industry. The final part of the exhibition is dedicated to the combat history of the 345th Dagestan Rifle Division and to veterans who were killed or went missing in the Great Patriotic War.
