The Chernyshkovsky Cossack Museum is a research institution intended for the study and preservation of the history and culture of the Don Cossacks. The museum's founding date is considered to be June 17, 1992. The initiator was the head of the Department of Culture, Mikhail Nikolaevich Lunochkin, who subsequently became the first director. The core of the exhibition consisted of antiquities from the founder's private collection. The museum's collections hold household items of the Don Cossacks. The museum's exhibitions are devoted to the history of the Cossacks and their descendants living in the territory of the Second Don District of the Don Cossack Host region, and to earlier periods.
