Cherkekh Historical and Ethnographic Museum named after D.K. Sivtsev–Suorun Omolloon

About museum

The "Yakut Political Exile" Museum was founded in 1977 at the initiative of the renowned Yakut writer Suorun Omolloon (Dmitry Kononovich Sivtsev). The residents of the Tattinsky ulus built the museum free of charge with their own hands on an area of eleven and a half hectares. Authentic and reconstructed objects transported from across the Republic of Sakha are exhibited here. The museum presents the history of political exile in Yakutia from the 17th century. Visitors can see rare traditional structures such as a wooden chapel and a mill-topchanka, as well as ritual shamanic items and burial structures. In addition, the museum has an exhibition hall and a visitor center. After Sivtsev's death the museum was renamed the Suorun Omolloon Museum.
