Cheboksary District Museum 'Bichurin and Modernity'

The Cheboksary District Museum 'Bichurin and Modernity' of the Cheboksary District of the Chuvash Republic was opened by decree of the head of the administration of the Cheboksary District on April 5, 2001. The establishment of the museum was the result of painstaking efforts by the district's leaders and local historians. It became a local attraction and a repository of material and spiritual cultural monuments of the local population. Foreign delegations visit the museum, including representatives from China, Turkey, Slovakia and other countries. The main attribute of the museum is the hall 'The Scientific Feat of Bichurin', dedicated to Nikita Yakovlevich Bichurin (1777–1835), the founder of the Russian school of sinology and Mongolian studies, laureate of the Demidov Prizes, a corresponding member of the Russian Academy of Sciences, etc. The hall is supplemented with the scholar's scientific works and is arranged as a reading room for scientific publications.
