Baikal Museum of the Irkutsk Scientific Center
About museum
On the picturesque shore of Lake Baikal, 70 km from Irkutsk, is the Baikal Museum, which has a long history beginning with the exhibition of hydrobiological collections at the Academy of Sciences' limnological station. In 1993 the Presidium of the Siberian Branch of the Russian Academy of Sciences separated the museum from the Limnological Institute and transferred the institute's building on Baikal to it. The museum's main activities are research and educational outreach. Prominent scientists who study the evolution of the Baikal ecosystem work at the museum. The museum's exhibitions present a variety of aspects of Baikal limnology.
