About museum
On the picturesque shore of Lake Baikal, 70 km from the city of Irkutsk, stands the Baikal Museum, which has a long history beginning with the display of hydrobiological collections at the Academy of Sciences' limnological station. In 1993 the Presidium of the Siberian Branch of the Russian Academy of Sciences separated the museum from the Limnological Institute and transferred the institute's building on Baikal to it. The main activities of the museum are scientific research and educational outreach. The museum employs eminent scientists who study the peculiarities of the evolution of Lake Baikal's ecosystem. The museum's exhibits present the diversity of aspects of Baikal limnology.
