Architectural and Ethnographic Department “Kostromskaya Sloboda”
About museum
Do you want to immerse yourself in the atmosphere of an old village amid the hustle and bustle of the city? Simply travel to Kostroma and visit the Architectural and Ethnographic Department of the Kostroma Museum-Reserve. Here you will see unique examples of wooden architecture — traditional log houses (izbas) and small wooden churches — as well as the sloboda’s gates, footbridges over quiet waters, and little huts with exhibitions that tell the story of Kostroma peasantry. Here you can see the izbas and learn details of peasant everyday life during interactive sessions held by prior arrangement.
