In 1937 the Akhtynsky Local History Museum was established; it is located in the building of the Akhty Juma Mosque. It is the second oldest museum in Dagestan. The museum's collection contains more than 7,000 exhibits. Here you can see a paleontological collection, a diorama of the nature of the Akhtynsky district of Dagestan, Stone Age artifacts and items from other eras, weapons, numismatics, household items from a mountain house, and decorative and applied arts. The museum also houses a rich ethnographic collection, including costume ensembles of the peoples of Dagestan, items of cults and rituals of the Akhtyn people, jewelry, and handmade carpets. Visitors can also view the interiors of a coppersmith's workshop, a mountain man's sakli (traditional dwelling), a home bakery, a model of the Akhtyn fortress built in 1839, as well as a collection of paintings from the Soviet period. The 'Hall of Glory' presents information about Akhtyn residents who participated in the Great Patriotic War, as well as personal archives, awards and documents of veterans, and recordings of their wartime memories.
