Exhibition 'Snow Avant-Garde'

CK19 Cultural Center presents an exhibition by the well-known Russian art group 'Blue Noses'. The exhibition features more than 30 photographs and videos.

Having visited Norilsk, the 'Blue Noses' artists were struck by the area's harsh climate and the vast industrial zones surrounding the city. The artists therefore created a project about anthropo-suprematist creatures made of snow and ice that inhabit the outskirts of Norilsk. They also tried to become such creatures themselves, somewhat resembling El Lissitzky's prouns or fantastical transformers generated by the local natural and technogenic conditions. All of this was made from snow and cardboard, then photographed against real Norilsk landscapes, together forming an observation of the creation, life, and activities of a new mythological figure of the post-industrial era.

According to Natalia Fedyanina, director of the Norilsk Museum, the art group 'Blue Noses' interpreted ZOZh as Zapolyarny Obraz Zhizni (Polar Way of Life), implying that the Arctic is a new promising place for an artist to live — and the creation of a new snow avant-garde.

The exhibition runs until April 21, 2024.
