On June 27, the ceremonial opening of the exhibition "The Man Who Was Chesterton" took place at the I.S. Ostroukhov House in Trubniki, timed to mark the 150th anniversary of the birth of the English writer, philosopher and publicist Gilbert Chesterton. The exhibition continues the series of themed projects "English Literature in the House of Ilya Ostroukhov", which examines the history of creative contacts and mutual reflections between foreign and domestic authors.
As one of the exhibition's curators, Marina Krasnova, explained, the creation of the exposition began with Chesterton's best-known novel in Russia, "The Man Who Was Thursday": this famous detective novel is referenced both in the exhibition's title and in its symbolic division into seven parts — one for each day of the week.
The exhibition allows visitors to get acquainted both with archival materials, including those related to the history of translations of Chesterton's works by Natalya Trauberg, and with illustrations for his works created by artists Ilya Oleinikov and Petr Lyubavin.
The exhibition "A Man Named Chesterton" will run until October 20.
