Every year on April 18 the world observes the International Day for Monuments and Sites, or World Heritage Day.

A multimedia cruise titled "A.N. Radishchev in Monumental Art" was dedicated to this date; it took place at the A.N. Radishchev Museum for schoolchildren from the Kuznetsk district as part of the Pushkin Card program.

Participants were introduced to the history of the International Day for Monuments and Sites, which has traditionally been observed since 1984. It was established by the Assembly of the International Council on Monuments and Sites.

The students were told that even in ancient times rulers were well aware of the influence of monumental structures on people's consciousness. Monuments, by their grandeur, inspire respect for a country's history and help preserve its significant past. They are intended to foster in citizens a sense of pride in their ancestors. Great people, historical figures, and important persons who contributed to the development of the modern world are depicted on monuments, sculptures, and obelisks.

Alexander Nikolayevich Radishchev is one of the key figures in Russian history; monuments, obelisks, busts, and memorial plaques have been erected to him in various corners of our country and abroad. Many artists and sculptors have turned to the writer's image.

During the multimedia cruise the students made a virtual journey and learned which monuments, obelisks, and busts were erected to the great writer in the Moscow, Leningrad, Saratov, Ulyanovsk, Omsk, Kaluga, Irkutsk, and Kuznetsk regions, in Yekaterinburg, Ust-Ilimsk, Syumsi, Kuznetsk, Tomsk, Leipzig, and in Udmurtia.

The students also took part in the "Day of Care for Monuments of History and Culture" campaign and helped improve the grounds of the museum-estate.

The meeting concluded with remarks on how important it is to remember history, honor the memory of the past, not forget historical sites, and preserve and pass on cultural heritage to future generations.
