Exhibition "Bridges That Connected Eras"
About exhibition
In 2025 the Saratov railway bridge celebrates its 90th anniversary, the Saratov–Engels road bridge, which has become a symbol of the region, its 60th, and the bridge at the village of Pristannoye its 25th. The Victory Bridge across the navigable channel in the city of Balakovo marks its 10th anniversary. The exhibition presents materials on the history of the construction of these unique engineering structures: photographs, documents and design sketches from the museum's collections. Among the especially interesting and rare exhibits are the 1935 photo album 'Construction of the Saratov III – Anisovka Line'; the scissors and the red ribbon that were cut on July 11, 1965 at the opening of the road bridge, which was the largest in Europe at that time. Visitors will learn how Saratov residents crossed the Volga before the bridges appeared, will become acquainted with unrealized bridge projects across the Volga near Saratov, and will see fragments of the films 'A Bridge Is Being Built', 'A Bridge Above the River' and newsreel footage from various years.
