Zoological Museum of Tomsk State University
About museum
The Zoological Museum of Tomsk State University was founded in 1888. Even during the construction of the university, donations began to arrive in Tomsk in the form of collections of birds and mammals of Central and East Asia from I. F. Kamensky and G. A. Kolpakovsky, as well as marine invertebrates of the Arctic Ocean from N. A. E. Nordenskiöld. Since then the collection has been continually expanded as a result of the zoologists' scientific research at the university. The museum houses various forms of zoological collections: mounted specimens, preserved whole bodies, skins, wet specimens, skeletons, and microscopic preparations. Famous professors G. E. Iogansen, M. D. Ruzsky, V. V. Sapozhnikov, G. Kh. Iogansen, and S. U. Stroganov conducted expeditionary work and research. Today the museum holds collections of mammals, birds, amphibians and reptiles, fish, lower chordates, and invertebrates. There is also a library that contains scientific monographs, journals, and collections of materials from scientific conferences on zoological and ecological topics.
