On December 14, 2001, the municipal cultural institution 'Exhibition Center' of Protvino was established at the initiative of the head of the town of Protvino, V.Yu. Dmitrovsky. It meets the requirements for presenting works of art. Exhibitions, competitions, festivals, literary and musical evenings, as well as works by Russian and foreign artists, are held here. The town of Protvino, located 98 km from Moscow, has a population of over 37,000. More than 40 artists are based here, 14 of whom are members of the Union of Artists of the Russian Federation. Their works are exhibited in many venues, including the international exhibition complex 'Crocus Expo' in Moscow; art galleries in the towns of Serpukhov, Pushchino, and Tarusa; the Belarusian sister cities Gomel and Logoisk; as well as in Paris, Switzerland, Germany, China, Italy, and the USA. In December–January 'Winter Vernissages' are held, which become a culminating event for the artists and exhibition visitors.
