The Lazhechnikov Merchants' Estate is a historical monument of the mid-18th to 19th centuries associated with the name of the writer Ivan Ivanovich Lazhechnikov, who became known for his Russian historical novels. Kolomna is the author's birthplace, where he spent his childhood and youth. In the Pushkin era Lazhechnikov became famous for his historical novels about Peter I, Anna Ioannovna and Ivan III. In 1981 the main building of the estate was transferred to the city department of culture for the creation of the Lazhechnikov Museum, which in 2002 was granted the status of a monument of regional significance. In 2007 the museum was opened to the public, and in 2010, on the occasion of the 220th anniversary of the writer's birth, it presented the exhibition "Kolomna of Centuries Past". The museum complex is constantly supplemented with materials donated by the writer's descendants.
