Shuryshkarsky Museum Complex named after G. S. Puzyryov
About museum
The Shuryshkarsky District Museum was founded in 1985 by an education activist, G. S. Puzyryov. In 2017 his name was given to the museum complex. This museum attracted international attention thanks to precious silverware discovered in the 1980s in the village of Lopkhari. It includes two lids and a bowl-like vessel made in Northern Europe in the 12th–13th centuries. Separately, a Byzantine bowl depicting Alexander the Great's flight on griffins was found. That bowl is kept in the Hermitage, and replicas were made for the museum. In 2007 a Concept for the development of the district's museums was developed, in which the main Shuryshkarsky museum was designated as a methodological center. The museum's collections consist of 59,115 storage units and represent a rich archival and material collection. The museum presents regularly changing exhibitions dedicated to archaeology, history, nature, and the creative work of local residents.
