Syamzhensky District Local History Museum
About museum
In 1991 the Syamzhensky District Local History Museum was established; it is an institution of the Syamzhensky Municipal District. It welcomes visitors with four exhibitions: "Nature", "The Soldier and the Worker Saved the Country", "Archaeology", and "Culture and Everyday Life (late 19th — early 20th century)". The museum currently has more than five thousand items in its collections, including spinning wheels, samovars, birch-bark objects, traditional folk costumes and urban clothing from the late 19th century, as well as Russian embroidery. The museum also preserves documents related to the Great Patriotic War, the establishment of Soviet power in the region, and the development of the Syamzhensky district in the 1970s–1980s. The main activities of the museum are research, collection management, exhibitions, and cultural-educational work. Souvenirs featuring the district's symbols and images of scenic spots in Syamzha are available for sale.
