Safonovsky Local History Museum

Located 102 km east of Smolensk, the museum in Safonovo was opened on May 9, 1990, in a building constructed in the early years of the town's development. The first director of the museum was Borovkova Valentina Antonovna, and since October 1994 this position has been held by Yakovleva Lyubov Nikolaevna, who was awarded the commemorative medal "Patriot of Russia" for her significant contribution to the study and preservation of the history of the Safonovo area and the development of local history. The museum has six exhibition halls, and cooperation with school museums and local history corners plays an important role in its work, as does the digitization of school museum exhibits and the activity of the local history association "Heritage".
