Sharanga People's Local History Museum
About museum
On September 6, 1977 the Sharang District Council of Workers' Deputies decided to open a local history museum in the settlement of Sharanga. The museum was opened on November 4, 1978. In 1995 the museum was granted the status of 'People's Museum' for its active work in studying, preserving and promoting the historical heritage, and for reviving and developing the region's cultural traditions. Today the museum has five thematic departments. The Ethnography Hall acquaints visitors with Mari and Russian cultures. The History Hall tells about the origin and development of the district. The Flora and Fauna Hall displays the wildlife of the district and its surroundings. The Hall of Military Glory recalls the years of the Great Patriotic War (World War II). Since May 2013 the museum has had a department of household items from the Soviet era. The Sharanga People's Local History Museum invites residents and guests of the settlement to visit its exhibitions and displays!
