The Penza Regional Art Gallery named after K. A. Savitsky was founded in 1892 according to the will of the Penza governor N. D. Seliverstov. It is one of the oldest and largest museums in Russia, with a collection numbering over 28,000 works of art. The museum is located in two historic buildings in Penza: the "Peasant Land Bank" and the "Governor's House." The collection includes works by F. Rokotov, D. Levitsky, L. Miropolsky, I. Repin, I. Aivazovsky, I. Shishkin, K. Makovsky, A. Savrasov, A. Bogolyubov, I. Levitan, A. Kuindzhi, N. Goncharova, K. Korovin, A. Lentulov, R. Falk, Ya. Vignali, A. van Ostade, M. Hobbema, S. Luttichuys, Ya. Janssens, P. Minyar, F. K. Winterhalter, as well as works of Soviet and contemporary Russian art and the Penza art school. A distinctive feature of the gallery is the Museum of a Single Painting and a branch in Nikolsk, which houses a collection of glass and crystal. The museum permanently exhibits more than 1,000 of its finest works.
