Panorama «Defense of Sevastopol 1854–1855»
About museum
The panorama «Defense of Sevastopol 1854–1855» is the largest exhibit of the Museum of the Heroic Defense and Liberation of Sevastopol. It commemorates the feat of the city's defenders during the Eastern (Crimean) War of 1853–1856. The panorama's exhibition hall tells the story of the city's defense. There you can see relics associated with the names of Admirals V. A. Kornilov and P. S. Nakhimov, General E. I. Totleben, as well as ordinary defenders of the city. The panorama displays awards, personal belongings, weapons and uniforms, banners, and ship models. There are also materials about the panorama's destruction in 1942 and its revival after the Great Patriotic War. On the canvas of the panorama, created by battle painter F. A. Rubo, the events of 6 (18) June 1855 are depicted, when the defenders successfully repelled an assault by Anglo-French forces on the fortifications of the Ship-side. Visiting the panorama helps to better understand the city's history and the heroism of Sevastopol's defenders.
