Museum Club "House of the Agafurovs"
About museum
A wooden carved mansion in the Neo-Russian style — the work of an unknown architect — belonged to the Agafurov merchants, millionaires of the late 19th century and one of the most respected and famous families of Yekaterinburg. For many years the mansion was under restoration, and in 2016 the Museum Club "House of the Agafurovs" opened here. The exhibition "The Agafurov Family" tells the story of the Tatar dynasty of the Agafurovs and the grand success of their trading empire in the Urals. Few authentic items belonging to members of the family have survived, but the interior of the house itself, preserved from the time of the first owners, is impressive: stained-glass windows, stucco, flooring, decoration, and samples of linoleum and glazed tiles. One of the rooms was deliberately left untouched by the restorers. The mansion itself will tell you the story of its life and rebirth through the exhibition "I — the House". The Soviet period of the house's history is presented in the exhibition "Communal Apartment" — a room recreating the atmosphere of a 1960s communal flat (from 1938 the mansion was indeed home to residents of a communal apartment). In several rooms of the mansion, rotating exhibitions of decorative and applied arts, painting, and photography change monthly. The wonderful atmosphere created by the active, life-loving Agafurov merchants and the hospitable current owners of the house — the museum staff — helps visitors become active participants in a variety of projects and events.
