Museum and Local History Complex 'Stolny Gorod Borovsk'

About museum

Borovsk Historical and Local History Museum was founded on August 12, 1968 and is a branch of the Kaluga Regional Local History Museum. Its activity began with a public museum located on the grounds of the Pafnutyev Monastery. In 1987 it received state museum status and at the same time other museums were merged: the Museum of Military Glory and the Museum of Decorative and Applied Arts. The museum's collections have been steadily growing and now total about 12,000 storage units. It houses a numismatic collection from the 16th–20th centuries; a collection of household items from the 19th–20th centuries; documents, photographs and awards of the Great Patriotic War of 1941–1942; as well as photographs of old views of Borovsk and of local families. Particular attention should be paid to the graphics collection, which includes works by People's Artists of Russia such as Vitaly Mironov, Lyudmila Kiseleva, Alexander Vetrov, Nikolay Milov and Vyacheslav Chernikov.
