The M. P. Mussorgsky Museum-Estate is a place where the past and present merge into a single whole. It preserves the memory of the great musician, his life and work. This museum attracts thousands of people from different cities and countries who come to admire unique items of history and culture. It is the only state memorial museum-estate of the great Russian composer M. P. Mussorgsky in the world, created on the initiative of the director of the Zhizhitsa School, A. I. Kachnov, with the support of the Union of Soviet Composers of the USSR and the Ministry of Culture. The ceremonial opening of the museum took place on June 29, 1968, and in 1970 it was incorporated into the Pskov Museum-Reserve. The museum's collections contain items of aristocratic domestic life from the families of Mussorgsky's close relatives and friends. It is located on the shore of the picturesque Zhizhitskoye Lake. The memorial museum complex includes: the Naumovo estate with its park, the Karevo estate, the Poshivkino pogost (churchyard), and a monument to Mussorgsky.
