Museum "Nature of the Caspian"
About museum
The Nature of the Caspian Museum, established in 1993, is a unique place preserving exhibits of endangered species of animals and birds. Visitors can learn about the region's flora and fauna and see its species richness and diversity. The museum building is divided into four sections, each reflecting the natural-climatic zones of Southern Dagestan. The panoramas display taxidermy specimens of animals, birds and aquatic life. For example, the "Migratory Birds" section features cormorants, pelicans, swans, flamingos and herons, while the "Caspian Sea" section shows sturgeon species. The "Steppe Zone" exhibits include the European hare, little bustard, rook, cuckoo, stone-curlew and other birds and animals. In the "Inhabitants of Dagestan's Forest Zone" you can see wild boar, bear, wolf, fox and other animals. Among the species listed in the Red Data Book, birds are the most numerous; also present is the Persian (Caucasian) leopard, which faces the threat of extinction.
