The Norilsk Museum is one of the largest municipal museums in the country. Museum activity in the city began as early as 1939, and the main museum building is located in the city center and is one of its landmarks. The exhibits cover the history of the exploration of the North, the ethnography and nature of Taymyr, as well as the history of Norillag. The museum's collections include more than 77,000 items, among which the geological-mineralogical, ethnographic, and fine art collections are of particular interest. The museum also holds a significant number of written sources and film, audio, and photographic archives. Major cultural events and more than a hundred exhibitions are organized here annually, and the museum receives numerous awards and grants. Recently supported projects include the PolArt residency dedicated to contemporary art and the restoration of two museum buildings on Leninskaya and Komsomolskaya streets.
