Museum 'Masters'

About museum

Opposite Victory Park in the village of Khokhol stands the house-museum of folk art 'Masters'. It is a genuine wooden izba with carved window frames, a cornice and gates. It was opened in 1985 at the initiative of the late First Secretary of the Regional Committee of the CPSU, I. N. Medvedev, and was funded by the Khokhol village council. It was a true people's construction. The old building of the district social welfare office, the clinic, the kindergarten and even the police station were, thanks to the efforts of the people, rebuilt into this exquisite carved terem. Many organizations and individuals took part in its construction. The museum has five departments, each dedicated to a specific theme. The very first room is the peasant room. Here you can see an old Russian stove, a spinning wheel, a table with a samovar, a cradle, polati (wall-mounted sleeping platforms), a loom and other household items. All of them are authentic and were donated to the museum by people from the district.
