About museum

On May 3, 2019, just 6 km from the Kremlin near Veliky Novgorod, the world's only private Museum of Stone Millstones opened. On a 10‑sotka open‑air plot and in a pavilion more than 125 millstones and grindstones weighing from 5 to 800 kg are displayed, capable of dispelling the notion of Rus as a "wooden civilization." The museum offers various activities: you can grind grain, bake and eat a flatbread, wash it down with coffee made from beans ground on a 19th‑century coffee grinder, sharpen knives without Shufutinsky, and master the art of balancing buckets on a yoke. Visitors can see this for themselves. Visits are by arrangement.
