Museum of the History of Law Enforcement Bodies of the Don

About museum

In May 1974, the Museum of Don Militia was opened in the Department of Internal Affairs of the Rostov Regional Executive Committee. In recent years it has been rebuilt twice. Two new halls were added in honor of the 200th anniversary of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia. The first displays gifts and souvenirs, and the second presents the history of the Don police from the 18th century to the early 20th century. In 2006 a third hall was opened, dedicated to the militia and the modern police. In 2011 the museum received a new name — Museum of the History of Law Enforcement Bodies of the Don. Today it exhibits more than 3,000 items across an area of 225 sq. m. Over the course of its existence the museum has been visited by more than 350,000 people. Guided tours, meetings with veterans, lessons in courage, and the presentation of service ID cards to young employees are held here.
