The Sayansk City History Museum was founded in 1995 and is one of the museums of the Irkutsk Region. Its collection includes objects of material and spiritual culture related to the history and natural environment of the city and the surrounding area. The museum has two permanent exhibitions: "My Unique City", which features photographic materials and items relating to the history of Sayansk's construction, and an exhibition of peasant household items "Legends of the Distant Past". The museum's purpose is the patriotic and moral education of people by fostering knowledge about the history, culture, and the city. Museum lessons are popular in the city's schools and kindergartens; they are held throughout the school year and consist of theoretical and practical parts. The museum is still young, and the most interesting and exciting things are yet to come.
