The uniqueness of the museum is that it reveals to visitors the history of Yoshkar-Ola, its people and their way of life. It hosts exhibitions, lectures, workshops, competitions and much more. The museum is an attraction for tourists, city residents and its guests. The Museum about life in Yoshkar-Ola is housed in the historic merchant house of Trofim Chulkov, built in 1911. It was founded on the initiative of the head of the city administration, the deputy head, the head of the culture department, as well as local historians and public figures. L. A. Parmanova became the museum's first director, and L. N. Komelina its collections keeper. The museum's collection was created thanks to the city's long-time residents and amateur local historians. The museum exhibits objects of urban life, decorative and applied arts, archaeology, heraldry, artworks and photographic documents. Exhibitions, lectures, workshops, competitions and much more are held here. The museum attracts tourists, city residents and its guests, allowing them to learn about the history of Yoshkar-Ola, its people and their lives.
