Chernogorsk City History Museum
About museum
The Chernogorsk City History Museum was opened on April 29, 1981. Valentina Vasilievna Antonova was appointed the first director and made a significant contribution to the formation and preservation of the city's historical and cultural heritage. The museum featured departments covering the city's history before the revolution, during the revolutionary and civil wars, the peaceful pre-war five-year plans, the Great Patriotic War (World War II), and the present day. In 1997 the museum was moved to premises at 76 Lenin Street. In 1998 a picture gallery was opened with a collection of 200 works. In 2015 a second location was opened with the exhibitions "Russian Ethnography" and "20th Century Technology Collection". The museum holds more than 32,000 items donated by the city's residents. In 2011 the project "Without the Past There Is No Future" was launched. Thus, the Chernogorsk City History Museum is an important point on the map of the city's cultural heritage.
