In 1991 the Municipal Budgetary Institution 'Museum of the History of the Bashkir Organization of the All-Russian Society of the Blind' was opened in the urban district city of Ufa of the Republic of Bashkortostan. Its founder is the Bashkir Republican Organization of the All-Russian Society of the Blind, and its initiator was World War II veteran and honorary member of the All-Russian Society of the Blind Anvar Akramovich Kazakov. The museum's exhibits combine 19th–20th century items directly related to the lives of blind people and are organized around the history of the Bashkir organization of the All-Russian Society of the Blind. The exhibits in the first hall tell about the life of blind people before the revolution, the establishment of the organization of the blind in the republic, and the society's life during the war, while the second hall is devoted to the activities of four educational and production enterprises that manufacture products for various industries and also shows the achievements of people with visual impairments in various sports.
