Magdagachinsky District Museum of the History of the Amur Cossacks
About museum
On July 11, 1993, at the initiative of hereditary Amur Cossack Georgy Nikolaevich Shokhirev, the Museum of the History of the Amur Cossacks was founded. In the building of the former stanitsa administration, built in 1912, the first exhibition was held on the occasion of the 135th anniversary of the founding of Chernyaevo. The museum displayed household items, photographs, and documents recounting the history of the Amur Cossack Host and Cossack dynasties. On September 9, 2011, a branch of the Amur Regional Museum of Local Lore was solemnly opened in the village of Chernyaevo. In the new building an exhibition dedicated to the history of the Amur Cossacks was arranged. It is based on archival materials describing Yermak Timofeyevich’s campaign and Erofey Pavlovich Khabarov’s campaign on the Amur. In addition, the documentary materials are supplemented by authentic 17th-century items and tell about the settlement of the Amur lands in the late 19th century.
