St. Petersburg Museum of 20th–21st Century Art
About museum
The St. Petersburg Museum of 20th–21st Century Art (MISP) is an integral part of the history of the city on the Neva. It was established in January 2016 as a branch of the Central Exhibition Hall 'Manege'. MISP began its artistic activities in 1990, when a resolution of the board of the Main Directorate for Culture of the executive committee of the Leningrad Soviet commissioned the formation of a collection of works by Leningrad artists with the aim of creating a Museum of Contemporary Art. Today MISP's collection numbers 4,000 items and represents a variety of trends and directions in art across two centuries — from the avant-garde of the 1920s to the artistic phenomena of the post-Perestroika period. MISP hosts temporary exhibitions, and in summer its inner courtyard becomes a venue for cultural events. Thus, MISP is a unique repository of art reflecting the entire history of Petrograd–Leningrad–St. Petersburg.
