B.U. Kashkin Museum

About museum

The B.U. Kashkin Museum was opened on December 19, 2008, on the basis of the Laboratory of Artistic Practices and Museum Technologies of the Faculty of Art History and Cultural Studies of the Ural Federal University named after the first President of Russia B.N. Yeltsin, as part of the Center for Contemporary Culture (CCC). It was created thanks to the combined efforts of students, staff, and faculty as a multifunctional experimental platform where cultural and artistic projects are carried out, interdisciplinary research is conducted, educational programs in the field of contemporary art culture are implemented, and innovative museum technologies are developed. The museum is named after one of the beloved legendary figures of the unofficial culture of Sverdlovsk–Yekaterinburg — Starik Bukashkin (Yevgeny Malakhin). A vivid and original representative of this phenomenon in Russian culture — an experimental photographer, an abstract painter, the author of samizdat poetry booklets, and the founder of the informal society "Kartinnik" — he became an iconic figure for the Ural capital, its distinctive symbol.
