In the Leningrad Region, including the territory of Boksitogorsk District, there are many places associated with the Great Patriotic War. One of the best-known is the village of Astracha ('astrachen' — the local name for a small perch). It is located 9 km south of Tikhvin, 21 km from Boksitogorsk, and 9 km west of the junction of roads leading to Pikalyovo and Boksitogorsk, as well as on the Tikhvin - Vologda highway.
