About museum

In 2009 the Cultural and Historical Complex 'Tsarevokokshaysky Kremlin' was established in Yoshkar-Ola with the aim of preserving the historical and cultural environment, providing citizens with socio-cultural services, educating the population, and increasing the tourist appeal of the city and the republic. The Kremlin was reconstructed on the site of the ancient Tsarevokokshaysk ostrog (fort), later the Bazaar and Revolution squares. For centuries this place was the center of administrative, commercial, and public life, and it is now regaining its status as the city’s historical center. The Kremlin hosts various events: concerts, theatrical productions, sports competitions, festivals, holidays, and fairs. Visitors can also see the exhibitions 'Archaeology of the Republic of Mari El' and 'The Tale of Tsarev Grad', artillery reenactments from the 16th–19th centuries, and the summer exhibition 'Mari Apiary'. The Kremlin is open from 10:00 to 20:00, except on Mondays; visitors have free access to the inner territory.
